Pro-Israel US congressman says ‘Muslims don’t belong in America’

Pro-Israel US congressman says ‘Muslims don’t belong in America’ Elis Gjevori on Tue, 03/10/2026 - 07:09 Democrats condemn Islamophobic remarks by US lawmaker Andy Ogles amid a surge in anti-Muslim rhetoric online since the Israeli-US war on Iran began Andy Ogles walks through the US Capitol on February 03, 2026 in Washington, DC (Heather Diehl/Getty Images via AFP) Off A Republican member of the United States Congress has sparked widespread condemnation after declaring on social media that Muslims have no place in American society. Andy Ogles wrote on X on Monday that “Muslims don’t belong in American society,” adding in the same post that “Pluralism is a lie.” It was not immediately clear what prompted the remarks. However, social media monitors reported a sharp increase in anti-Muslim content on X since Israel and the US launched their joint war on Iran on February 28. The Washington, DC-based Center for the Study of Organized Hate (CSOH) said it tracked posts that explicitly dehumanised, excluded, and incited violence against Muslims from 1 January to 5 March. On the day the war began, the volume of such posts surged from just under 2,000 per day to more than 6,000, the report said.  (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Ogles, a staunch supporter of Israel and a member of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus, has previously floated proposals targeting Muslims. He recently said he intends to introduce legislation banning immigration from certain Muslim-majority countries. Over the weekend he posted additional remarks on X declaring that “Diversity is our weakness” and calling for the deportation of even naturalised Muslim Americans. 'Abhorrent' Investigative outlet Drop Site News reported last September that Israeli Foreign Ministry commissioned a global survey across the United States and several European countries to assess how to counter increasingly negative public attitudes toward Israel. According to the report, the findings suggested that public backing for Israel increased significantly when polling questions framed issues around fear of Muslims. The survey indicated that support for Israel rose by roughly 20 percentage points under such conditions. The Council on American–Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned the remarks calling Ogles "an anti-Muslim extremist." (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); "Ogles is a member of the so-called 'Sharia-Free America Caucus,' a group of US representatives who support extremist legislation that would, if enacted, essentially ban the practice of Islam in the United States," the statement said.  'Sharp spike' in anti-Muslim posts on X since US-Israel war on Iran, study shows Read More » "Islam is an American faith that has been present since the colonial-era when large numbers of Muslims were imported as slave labor, without any individual liberty or freedom of religion," said CAIR. The comments triggered swift condemnation from Democratic lawmakers, who described the rhetoric as openly Islamophobic. Judy Chu called the remarks “abhorrent,” while Lisa Blunt Rochester urged Republican leaders to publicly denounce the Tennessee congressman. Katherine Clark, the House minority whip, wrote on X: “This disgusting shit doesn’t belong in American society. And Republicans who support it don’t belong in Congress.” Ogles’s remarks come amid a broader surge of anti-Muslim rhetoric among some Republican politicians. Last month, Randy Fine caused a backlash after writing in a social media post that he would choose dogs over Muslims. Despite calls from several Democrats for disciplinary action or resignation, Republican leaders did not sanction him. An analysis by the The Washington Post found that nearly 100 Republican members of Congress have posted about Muslims or Islam since the beginning of the year, with the overwhelming majority of those comments framed negatively. Many of the posts referenced themes such as “radical Islam”, extremism or deportation. Islamophobia News Post Date Override 0 Update Date Mon, 05/04/2020 - 21:19 Update Date Override 0

‘Sounds familiar’: how the US-Israeli war in Iran parallels Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Both campaigns have been framed differently at different times, with dubious claims of defensive action and a curious reluctance to label it war Shifting goals, unclear timelines and a flimsy pretext: at times, the US-Israel campaign against Iran carries curious parallels of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The comparison is far from exact. In 2022, Putin sent a massive army across Ukraine’s borders in an unprovoked invasion of a democratic state, a campaign that quickly resulted in heavy losses. The United States has so far largely limited its involvement to airstrikes against Iran’s authoritarian regime. Continue reading...

Who will stand up for the Iranian people as death rains on them from the skies? | Nasrin Parvaz

Calls for a popular uprising and empty promises of help are reckless in the extreme – and no answer to my country’s plight Nasrin Parvaz is a women’s rights activist and torture survivor from Iran I have been watching the news from inside Iran, unable to hold in my sorrow. As an Iranian who was imprisoned and tortured by the regime, I have been pleading with the world’s human rights organisations and media to keep a focus on the country’s plight. But now I see US-Israeli bombs falling on Iran, and some Iranians celebrating this war while innocent people die. My heart is breaking for my country. Let us be clear: when Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu conspired to launch their war, it was not out of a desire to free the Iranian people from the tyranny of the regime. Netanyahu said on the second day of the war: “This coalition of forces allows us to do what I have yearned to do for 40 years.” He has named this operation “Lion’s Roar”. Meanwhile, Iranian monarchists celebrate the carnage, waving the shah’s version of the country’s flag with its crowned lion and sun. Minab school bombing: what evidence is there that the US was responsible?

Trump has blamed Iran for the mass killing at Shajareh Tayyebeh primary school but geolocation, videos and satellite imagery indicate otherwise The bombing of a primary school in Minab on 28 February killed scores of people, most of them seven- to 12-year-old girls. The strike is the worst mass killing of the US and Israel’s war on Iran so far – and has been described by Unesco as a “grave violation” of international law. On Saturday, the US president, Donald Trump, declared that Iran was responsible for the school bombing. “In my opinion, based on what I’ve seen, that was done by Iran … they’re very inaccurate, as you know, with their munitions. They have no accuracy whatsoever. It was done by Iran.” Continue reading...

US senator says will support Israel 'until my dying day'

US senator says will support Israel 'until my dying day' US Senator Lindsey Graham said he would stand with Israel “until my dying day” and urged Washington’s Gulf allies to play a greater role in the war against Iran. Speaking on Fox News, the Republican lawmaker criticised countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for refusing to allow their territories to be used for attacks on Iran. Graham said he wanted the US’s friends in Saudi Arabia and other countries “to step forward and say ‘This is my fight, too'”. The top Republican senator also criticised Spain, which has said it will not let the US use joint military bases on its territory during its war against Iran. “To our allies. Step up,” said Graham. “Get our air bases out of Spain. They’re not reliable. Move all those airplanes to a country that would let us use them when we’re threatened by a regime like Iran,” he added. Where does he think he derives the authority to unilaterally offer permanent “defense agreements” to foreign countries? Who exactly made this effeminate weirdo emperor of the world? I don’t remember voting on that measure. https://t.co/wshSapExik March 10, 2026
