New video suggests US strike near Iran girls' school, report says

New video suggests US strike near Iran girls' school, report says New video footage appears to show a US Tomahawk missile striking a facility in Minab, Iran, on 28 February, according to the open-source investigative group Bellingcat. The footage, released by Iran’s Mehr News and geolocated by Bellingcat, is said to provide the first visual evidence that US forces hit the area. The video also shows smoke rising from the vicinity of a nearby girls’ school where 175 people were reportedly killed, including children. The footage contradicts US President Donald Trump’s earlier claim that an Iranian missile was responsible for the strike on the school. A video released by Mehr News, and geolocated by Bellingcat, shows the missile hitting a building near the school. This image shows a comparison between the Tomahawk missile that hit near the school and Tomahawk missiles flying over Tehran earlier in the conflict. pic.twitter.com/wv0MekFJpR March 8, 2026

Analysis-Iran defies Trump, elevates Khamenei's son Mojtaba as successor

By Samia Nakhoul and Parisa Hafezi DUBAI, March 9 (Reuters) - Iran's clerical leadership chose confrontation over compromise in appointing Mojtaba Khamenei to succeed his father, Ali Khamenei, a move regional officials say is a direct rebuke to U.S. President Donald Trump, who had declared the son "unacceptable". Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a U.S.-Israeli strike at the start of the conflict, now in its second week.

Iran names Khamenei's son, Mojtaba, as new supreme leader, state media reports

Iran names Khamenei's son, Mojtaba, as new supreme leader, state media reports Iran's Assembly of Experts has named Mojtaba Khamenei to replace his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the country's new supreme leader, state media reported on Sunday. Mojtaba, a mid-ranking cleric with close ties to the powerful Revolutionary Guards, had long been viewed by elements of Iran's ruling establishment as a potential successor to his father, who was killed after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran. Although Iran's ruling ideology frowns on the principle of hereditary succession, he has a powerful following within the Guards and his dead father's still-influential office. This handout picture taken in Tehran on 30 October, 2024, and provided by the office of Iran's supreme leader, shows Mojtaba Khamenei (2nd L), one of the children of Iran’s slain supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
