A Lebanese father mourned the death of his four daughters, who were killed in an Israeli strike.
Two weeks in, it’s increasingly clear that the US-led war has taken every problem it aimed to solve – and made it worse It’s not easy, but let’s try to look at this war in the best, most charitable light. Let’s try to see the US-Israel conflict with Iran as its prosecutors and advocates would want us to see it. They would say that it has two aims, both legitimate. The first is to weaken if not remove a regime that has done terrible evil to its own people. Who could mourn the supreme leader of a government that, according to one report, gunned down 30,000 of its citizens on the streets in just two days on 8 and 9 January? Listen to those Iranians who long ago reached the glum conclusion that the only way they could be rid of their tormentors was through external military action. As one exiled Iranian put it to me this week: “The Iranian people have been begging the world for help for so many years. They tried voting for change in 2009; they were killed. They tried protesting in 2019, 2022 and this year; they were massacred in the tens of thousands … They were out of all other options.” Jonathan Freedland is a Guardian columnist Do you have an opinion on the issues raised in this article? The US-Israeli air strikes that on February 28 killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei not only resulted in the death of Iran's longstanding supreme leader but also several key family members. His son Mojtaba, one of Khamenei's six children, was a week later named the new supreme leader. Other key family members were however killed, even though there has been uncertainty about the fate of some.
Iran's latest internet blackout has lasted more than 14 days, connectivity monitor Netblocks said Friday. The nature of the limits on internet activity shows "this is a government-imposed measure" and not the result of damage from US and Israeli airstrikes, Netblocks research chief Isik Mater told AFP. "It is a deliberate shutdown imposed by the authorities to suppress the flow of information and prevent further dissent," said Raha Bahreini, Iran researcher at Amnesty International. Here are some of the ways information is still flowing in and out of Iran.
IRGC launches attacks on Israel in cooperation with Hezbollah Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that the Iranian military launched missiles and drones at Israel in coordination with Hezbollah, Al Jazeera is reporting. “The operation…targeted American-Zionist enemy objectives using a large number of precision-guided, solid-fuel ‘Kheibar Shekan’ missiles,” the IRGC said in a statement. The operation was part of its annual al-Quds Day, which is intended to show support for the Palestinian cause, the statement added.

Speaking alongside the chair of the joint chiefs of staff, the US defense secretary claimed Iran had been left without a functioning air force, navy or missile defense network after 13 days of strikes, and said the combined US-Israeli air campaign had hit more than 15,000 targets since the war began. TEHRAN, Mar. 13 (MNA) – Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that the Iranian nation will not bow down to the coward assaults by the US and Zionist regime.
Israel using tip-offs from Iranian informants for attacks: Report Israel has launched a new phase of its assault on Iran, targeting checkpoints manned by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) based on tip-offs from informants on the ground, Reuters is reporting, citing a source briefed on Israel's military strategy. The targeting of checkpoints secured by IRGC personnel suggests an intensification of Israel's efforts to weaken Iran's elite forces as it carries out joint aerial bombardment with the US. Israel says its war objectives include destroying Iran's military and nuclear capabilities but also "creating the conditions" for Iranians to overthrow their government, though Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said this is an uncertain prospect.
