Iran says it did not launch attacks towards Turkey or Azerbaijan There is more comments from Iran's foreign ministry. Speaking at a news briefing in Tehran, spokesperson Ismail Baghaei said Iran remained “adamant to maintain good and friendly relations” with countries across the region. However, he warned that Iran would act if foreign territory were used to launch attacks against it. “Our act of defence cannot be interpreted as an act of hostility towards any of these countries,” he said. Baghaei also rejected reports that Iranian weapons had been launched towards Turkey, Cyprus or Azerbaijan in recent days. “No offensives were initiated from Iranian territory” towards those countries, he said. The spokesperson suggested that some incidents could have been orchestrated by Iran’s adversaries in an effort to damage relations with neighbouring states. “We have warned repeatedly that the enemy may stage certain attacks to drive a wedge between us and other countries,” he said. Baghaei dismissed talk of mediation or ceasefire negotiations while fighting continues. “As we speak, military confrontations are still under way,” the Foreign Ministry spokesperson told the briefing. “At this particular point, speaking of any matter other than defending our homeland is irrelevant.” “We did not initiate or start this war,” he added. “It is not a war of choice. It is a war of necessity that was imposed on us.”
