US embassy urges Americans to leave Iraq immediately The US Embassy Baghdad has urged American citizens to leave Iraq immediately following a missile strike near the embassy compound overnight. In an updated security alert, the embassy warned that US nationals face heightened security risks in the country. “Americans face a risk of kidnapping, and US individuals have been directly targeted. Iran-aligned terrorist militias may hinder the Iraqi authorities’ ability to respond effectively in emergencies.” The embassy repeated its warning:“US citizens should leave Iraq immediately. US citizens who choose to remain in Iraq are encouraged to reconsider their decision given the significant threat posed by Iran-aligned terrorist militias.”
