Speaking to AFP, Iranian diplomat Shahriar Amouzegar criticised Ukraine after it highlighted its experience shooting down Shahed drones used by Russia in the war in Ukraine. "As for the actions Ukraine is taking in the Middle East against drones, we essentially consider them nothing more than a joke and a showy gesture," he said. Relations between Tehran and Kyiv remain strained. In 2022, Ukraine stripped the Iranian ambassador of accreditation and reduced diplomatic ties after accusing Iran of supplying drones to Russia.
